Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Success Could Define the Future of S26 Plus

Samsung is reportedly considering a major shake-up in its Galaxy S26 lineup, with the possible removal of the Galaxy S26 Plus in favor of an Edge variant. This decision hinges on the success of the Galaxy S25 Edge, a slim flagship model set for a limited release in 2025.

According to industry insider Max Jambor, if the Galaxy S25 Edge performs well in the market, Samsung may discontinue the Galaxy S Plus variant for the first time in its flagship lineup. While rumors about Samsung axing the Plus model have circulated in the past, the company has never acted on them—until now, perhaps.

The potential shift comes at a time when Apple is making similar adjustments. The iPhone 17 lineup, expected in late 2025, will reportedly replace the iPhone 17 Plus with an iPhone 17 Air model. If Samsung follows a similar approach, the Galaxy S26 Edge could take the place of the S26 Plus in 2026, offering a more streamlined flagship selection.

The Galaxy S25 Edge is seen as an experiment to gauge consumer interest in a slimmer, more compact flagship. If it resonates with users, the S26 Edge could become a mainstream flagship, sold alongside the standard Galaxy S26 and the premium Galaxy S26 Ultra. Unlike the S25 Edge, which is expected to have limited regional availability, the S26 Edge could see a broader global launch.

While it’s too early to confirm Samsung’s final decision, a restructuring of the Galaxy S-series lineup could serve as a strategy to boost sales by offering three distinct flagship models—a compact yet premium Edge variant, a standard version, and the high-end Ultra model. If Samsung proceeds with this shift, the Galaxy S26 lineup could reflect a new era in the company’s flagship smartphone strategy.
