Verizon Lowers 5G Home Internet Discount, Raising Costs for New Customers

Verizon has subtly tweaked its 5G Home Plus internet plan, making it more expensive for new subscribers without explicitly increasing the listed price. The plan, which normally costs $80 per month, previously offered a $35 discount, bringing the total to $45 per month. However, recent changes have reduced this discount to $25, meaning new customers will now pay $55 monthly instead of the previous rate.

Existing subscribers remain unaffected by the adjustment, continuing to receive the original $35 discount. While this change may seem like a straightforward price hike, Verizon has introduced a small incentive to counterbalance the reduction. New subscribers now gain access to a subscription perk, allowing them to select a third-party service and pay for it through their Verizon bill. The added benefit is estimated to be worth at least $10 per month.

For those who find value in the included perk, the effective cost difference may feel negligible. However, customers uninterested in the new feature will experience an unavoidable $10 price increase for the same service. This strategic move enables Verizon to raise revenue without explicitly announcing a price hike, a tactic that aligns with its upcoming pricing adjustments in other service areas.

Verizon is also preparing to modify its Mobile Protect plan pricing, specifically for accounts with four or more lines. The new rates for Mobile Protect will take effect on March 27, further signaling a shift in Verizon’s pricing strategies across multiple services.

While some users may appreciate the additional perk, others might see this as a subtle price increase disguised as a promotional adjustment. As telecom companies continuously refine their pricing structures, customers should stay informed about policy changes to ensure they are getting the best value for their subscriptions.
