Privacy Policy
AndroidBeep is a publication about Android devices and software. Running a publication means collecting some data from the people who read it. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, what we do with it, and your options to change, access, or delete it.
This policy applies to everyone who visits androidbeep.com, signs up for the AndroidBeep newsletter, submits a contact form, or interacts with the site in any way. It does not apply to third-party websites that AndroidBeep links to. Those sites have their privacy policies and their own data practices, which we have no control over.
We collect the minimum data needed to run the site, understand what content is useful to readers, and keep the newsletter running. We don’t sell personal information. We don’t share email addresses with advertisers. We don’t build detailed profiles of individual readers and sell access to them. What follows is the full picture of what actually happens with data on this site.
What Information AndroidBeep Collects
Information You Give Us Directly
When you sign up for the AndroidBeep newsletter, you give us your email address. That’s the only information we ask for. We don’t require your name, your location, or any other personal details to subscribe.
When you use the contact form or email us directly, we receive your email address and whatever information you choose to include in your message. If you submit a correction or a news tip, we receive the content of that submission.
We don’t collect payment information. AndroidBeep doesn’t sell subscriptions or products directly, so there’s no payment processing on this site.
Information Collected Automatically
When you visit androidbeep.com, our analytics platform collects certain information automatically. This includes the pages you visit, how long you spend on them, the device and browser you’re using, your operating system, and a general sense of your location based on your IP address. That location data is approximate, typically at the city or region level, not your specific address.
This data is collected in aggregate. We use it to understand which articles readers consider useful, how people move through the site, and where traffic comes from. We don’t use analytics data to identify individual readers or track specific people across sessions.
Information Collected Through Cookies
Cookies are small text files that websites store on your device. They serve different purposes depending on the type. AndroidBeep uses three categories of cookies, explained in detail in the Cookies section below.
How We Use the Information We Collect
We use email addresses collected through newsletter signups to send the weekly AndroidBeep newsletter. We don’t use newsletter subscriber addresses to send promotional emails on behalf of advertisers, and we don’t add newsletter subscribers to any other mailing lists without their knowledge.
Email addresses and message content from contact form submissions are used to respond to the inquiry. We keep a record of correspondence for as long as it’s relevant, typically until the matter is resolved and for a reasonable period afterward.
Analytics data is used to make editorial decisions. If we can see that readers consistently spend more time on detailed long-form reviews than on short news posts, that informs how we allocate editorial resources. If a particular category of content drives very little traffic, we evaluate whether it’s worth continuing. This is operational information, not personal profiling.
Third-party ad networks collect advertising-related data to serve ads to visitors. How that data is collected and used is governed by those networks’ own policies, which are described in more detail in the Third-Party Services section below.
Cookies
What Cookies Are and Why They Exist
A cookie is a small file placed on your device by a website you visit. It allows the website, or a third party the website works with, to recognize your browser on a return visit or across different pages during a session. Cookies are the standard mechanism that most websites use to keep advertising relevant, keep analytics accurate, and keep site functions working properly.
The Types of Cookies AndroidBeep Uses
Functional cookies are necessary for the site to work. They handle things like remembering your cookie consent preferences. Without functional cookies, the site would ask for your consent every time you loaded a new page.
Our analytics platform sets analytics cookies and collects aggregate data about how readers use the site. They track things like which pages they visit, how long a session lasts, and what type of device they use. We use this data to improve the site and do not use it to identify individual visitors.
Advertising cookies are set by the ad networks that serve display advertising on AndroidBeep. These cookies allow ad networks to show ads that are more likely to be relevant to the person viewing them, based on browsing behavior across multiple websites. This is called interest-based advertising.
How to Control Cookies
When you visit androidbeep.com for the first time, a cookie consent notice gives you the option to accept or decline non-essential cookies. Functional cookies cannot be disabled because they’re required for the site to operate. Analytics and advertising cookies can be declined without affecting your ability to read any content on the site.
You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Every major browser allows you to view, delete, and block cookies. Blocking all cookies will affect how some websites function, but AndroidBeep’s written content will remain fully accessible.
For interest-based advertising specifically, you can opt out through the Digital Advertising Alliance at optout.aboutads.info or the Network Advertising Initiative at optout.networkadvertising.org. These opt-outs don’t stop ads from appearing; they prevent those ads from being targeted based on browsing behavior.
Third-Party Services That Handle Reader Data
AndroidBeep uses several third-party services that may collect or process data independently. Each of these services is governed by its own privacy policy, which we link to below.
Google Analytics is the analytics platform we use to understand site traffic. Google may use the data it collects through analytics cookies in accordance with its privacy policy. You can learn more at policies.google.com/privacy. Google also offers a browser add-on that prevents Google Analytics from collecting data about your visits at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Advertising networks serve the display ads that appear on AndroidBeep. These networks set their cookies and collect data in accordance with their own policies. AndroidBeep does not have direct access to the data these networks collect about individual visitors.
The newsletter platform manages our subscriber list and sends the weekly newsletter. Your email address is stored on their servers. We chose this platform based on its data handling practices, and we govern the relationship through a data processing agreement.
Embedded content from third parties, such as YouTube videos embedded in articles, may set their own cookies and collect data when you interact with it. YouTube is operated by Google and is subject to Google’s privacy policy.
Advertising and Reader Data
AndroidBeep does not sell reader data to advertisers. Advertisers who run display ads on the site reach AndroidBeep’s audience through the ad network’s platform. They don’t receive a list of email addresses; they don’t receive individually identified reader profiles, and they don’t get access to contact form submissions or newsletter subscriber data.
Interest-based advertising works by allowing ad networks to use cookies to build a picture of the topics a browser has been associated with and then serve ads relevant to those topics. This happens at the network level, not the AndroidBeep level. If you prefer not to receive interest-based advertising, the opt-out options described in the Cookies section above apply here.
Affiliate Links and Third-Party Retailer Data
Some articles on AndroidBeep include affiliate links to third-party retailers. When you click an affiliate link, you’re leaving androidbeep.com and going to the retailer’s website. At that point, the retailer’s own privacy policy governs what data it collects. Retailers typically set their cookies and may track your visit and any subsequent purchase.
If a purchase is made through an affiliate link, the retailer pays AndroidBeep a commission. We do not receive any personal data about you from the retailer as part of that transaction.
How Long We Keep Data
Email addresses of newsletter subscribers are retained for as long as a subscription is active. When you unsubscribe, your email address is removed from the active subscriber list. Some platforms retain a suppression record to prevent accidental re-subscription; if you want your address removed entirely, contact us at privacy@androidbeep.com, and we’ll request a full deletion.
Contact form submissions and email correspondence are retained for as long as the matter they relate to requires, plus a reasonable period afterward. For most inquiries, that means until the exchange is complete and for up to twelve months after. If a correction report leads to a published correction, we may retain a record of the correspondence longer as part of our editorial records.
Analytics data is retained in aggregate form. Individual session data is not retained indefinitely, and the retention period is governed by our analytics platform’s settings.
Your Rights as a Reader
Rights for All Readers
You have the right to ask what personal information AndroidBeep holds about you, to request corrections if it’s inaccurate, and to request deletion. For newsletter subscribers, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any issue, which removes you from the mailing list immediately.
California Residents
If you’re a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you additional rights. Under CCPA, you have the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and how they’re used, the right to request deletion of your personal information, the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information (AndroidBeep does not sell personal information, so this right is already satisfied), and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
The categories of personal information AndroidBeep collects include identifiers such as email addresses, internet activity information such as pages visited and browser type, and general geolocation data at the city or region level.
How to Submit a Request
To submit a data access, correction, or deletion request, email privacy@androidbeep.com with a description of your request. We’ll respond within 45 days. For complex requests, we may need additional time and will let you know if that’s the case.
EU and UK Residents
If you’re in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation or UK GDPR, including the right to data portability and the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests. These rights can be exercised by contacting us at the address above. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
How We Protect the Data We Hold
AndroidBeep uses standard security practices to protect the data it holds. Our site runs on HTTPS, which encrypts data in transit between your browser and our servers. Access to subscriber data is limited to the people who need it to do their jobs. We don’t store payment card information because we don’t process payments.
No security practice is foolproof. We can’t guarantee that data will never be accessed by unauthorized parties under all circumstances. What we can say is that we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold, we don’t hold more than we need, and we don’t hold it longer than necessary.
Children’s Privacy
AndroidBeep is not directed at children under the age of 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us at privacy@androidbeep.com, and we will delete it.
This is in line with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, which prohibits websites from collecting personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
Links to External Websites
AndroidBeep articles link to external websites regularly. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and AndroidBeep has no control over their data practices. Clicking a link from androidbeep.com to an external site means you’re subject to that site’s privacy policy from that point forward. We’re not responsible for what external sites do with your data.
Changes to This Policy
When this policy changes materially, the updated version will be published on this page with a revised “Last Updated” date at the top. Material changes are changes that affect what data is collected, how it’s used, or who it’s shared with.
We won’t notify every reader of every minor update, but significant changes will be noted on the site. The most current version of this policy is always available at androidbeep.com/privacy-policy.
